Spoilers: Spoilers through "New York"
Word Count: 514
Summary: SPOILERS. Kurt's year wasn't really that good, but someone came to make it okay.
A/N: Wrote this extremely fast after the episode so sorry about the rambly-ness of it. I just needed to get it out.
The sun streamed in the windows at the Lima Bean, bathing Kurt Hummel in its warmth as he waited for his boyfriend to get coffee. The entire car ride over Blaine had dealt with him talking—literally nonstop—about singing on the stage at the Gershwinn Theatre. Kurt hadn’t intended for this entire boyfriend filled afternoon to be him talking about New York, but in honesty, it didn’t particularly seem like Blaine minded all that much.
Blain sat down, sliding the coffee across the table towards Kurt who accepted it with a quiet, “Thank you,” while Blaine simply smiled.
Kurt continued talking then, speaking of Nationals and Rachel and Finn and Jesse, the quiet that fell over the crowd when Finn kissed Rachel and the feeling when they learned they came in twelfth place. Twelfth place… out of fifty teams from all over the country. In all honesty, yes, they had been upset, but Kurt realized that 12 out of 50 was an incredible place to be—besides, there would always be next year.
Kurt took a breath and looked at Blaine. Blaine was giving him those eyes. The big, earnest, focused eyes that he got whenever he said something important—“You move me,” or “I’m crazy about you,” or “I really care about you.” He was looking at Kurt like he was the single most important thing in the world right now, his eyes hazel with the flecks of gold and bronze slipping out from the sunlight streaming in the window.
“I love you.”
Kurt had just taken a sip of his coffee when the words slipped out of Blaine’s mouth and he couldn’t help, but cough and choke a bit, in surprise and it had been like, a million years, why had he not said anything back yet!?
When Kurt regained the ability to breathe he said, quiet and overjoyed, “I-I love you too.”
Blaine just looked at him, happy and breathless until Kurt said, with his tone of usual inflection, ”Y’know it seems like Kurt Hummel has had a really good year.”
Blaine couldn’t help the small smile, accompanied by a quiet chuckle, because—well. Kurt Hummel’s year had consisted of being rejected by the new kid, his dad having a heart attack, being bullied so terribly he had to transfer, being told he wasn’t “quite right for the Warbler’s solo yet”, falling in love with his best friend, having said best friend ask out Jeremiah, having said best friend ask Rachel out because of a drunk mistake, being told that he was trying too hard to be sexy by said friend, and then… and then his best friend kissed him. Blaine kissed him and sang a duet with him and went to prom with him.
So yeah, overall Kurt’s year actually wasn’t that fantastic, but with that statement Kurt was saying that being able to be Blaine’s boyfriend, to have someone that felt so strongly about him, outweighed most of the bad things that happened this year, because now he had someone to hold on to when things got rough.
